Welcome to the world of succulents!
Follow this guide to keep your new plants happy and thriving.
Upon Arrival
- Unpack with Care: Gently open the packaging to let your succulents breathe and adjust. Inspect their condition. If you notice any issues, contact HiSucculents’ support team immediately.
- Post-Shipping Appearance: Due to dry roots during shipping, your succulents may appear slightly wilted or shed leaves. This is normal, and they should recover within 7-10 days after potting.
Handling Fallen Leaves or Broken Stems
Propagate New Plants:
Place fallen leaves or stems on well-draining soil to encourage rooting.
Keep the soil lightly moist, and soon you’ll have new succulent babies!
Potting Your Succulents
-
Root Preparation:
Trim damaged or overly long roots and let them air-dry for 1-2 days.
Soak the roots in a fungicide solution (e.g., Carbendazim) for 3-5 minutes, then air-dry before potting to prevent rot. -
Soil Preparation:
Mix fungicide and insecticide into the soil (store-bought or custom blend) to prevent pests and diseases.
Wear gloves and a mask when handling chemicals, and wash your hands afterward. -
Potting Steps:
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus soil mix.
Plant in slightly moist soil, wait 2-3 days, then water lightly around the pot’s edges.
Once established (1-2 weeks), water thoroughly when dry.
Water-loving succulents can be watered more frequently in well-ventilated conditions, while compact varieties need less.
Pro Tip: Always use pots with drainage holes to prevent water accumulation, which can harm succulents.
Fertilizing
Add slow-release fertilizer or fully composted organic fertilizer to the soil.
A little nutrition goes a long way in promoting vibrant, healthy growth.
Daily Care
-
Light & Airflow:
Place succulents in a bright spot with ample indirect sunlight and good ventilation to maintain their shape and color. -
Seasonal Tips:
- In hot summers, use sheer curtains or shade cloth to shield from intense sunlight.
- In cold winters (below 40°F), bring them indoors or use protective covers.
-
Propagation Timing:
Wait until succulents are fully mature before taking leaf cuttings or dividing.
Ongoing Maintenance
When repotting, refresh the soil with fungicide and insecticide to prevent pests and diseases. Reapply slow-release fertilizer every 3-6 months to support continuous growth.
